How to Publish
Share Your Research With the World
Our Editorial Board supports researchers in transforming peer-reviewed work into clear, compelling Breaks without compromising scientific accuracy. Authors remain the authoritative voice throughout the process, working with experienced scientific editors to clarify their central findings, articulate their significance and communicate complex ideas beyond their immediate field.
How to Submit
Choose a Study
Choose a peer-reviewed paper you authored, or a study by other researchers that you find compelling and want to share more widely — in any field or journal.
Write Your Break
Summarize it in clear, jargon-free language. Think: explaining your work to a smart friend over coffee. Format and style live in the Writing Guidelines.
Submit Through OJS
Submit your Break through Open Journal Systems (OJS/PKP), our editorial platform hosted by the University of Geneva Library, with the details required for review.
Submission Requirements
Who Can Submit
Scientists actively working within an academic or non-profit research institution. Maximum 3 authors per Break — all must actively participate in writing.
Manuscript Format
Main text: 600–1,000 words (aim for ~800). Abstract: Up to 400 characters. Based on a peer-reviewed publication in any scientific journal — full format in the Writing Guidelines.
Image
Suggest an image free from restrictive copyrights. Drawings and technical figures are not accepted — think vivid, engaging visuals.
Editorial Process
Preliminary Check
The editor-in-chief checks your submission for plagiarism, language quality, jargon level, and length. If adjustments are needed, you'll receive constructive feedback.
Lay-Peer Editing
A managing editor (senior scientist) and a review operations editor — typically a PhD student trained in science communication — work collaboratively with you to refine your Break. Revision usually takes around 30 days.
Publication
After final approval, your Break is published with its own DOI, categorized by discipline, and freely available to the world. You can suggest last corrections before it goes live.
